Strong Heart Institute Services

Carotid Artery Intimal Medial Thickness (IMT) testing is a cutting edge ultrasound technology. This test provides us with your arterial “age” and also demonstrates the presence or absence of subtle arterial wall thickening or plaque. The Strong Heart Institute pioneered the use of (IMT) in the Colorado front range in 2001.

Cardiac Stress Testing of all types is available through the Strong Heart program.

Impedance Cardiography (ICG) helps us develop personalized risk reduction strategies as they relate to heart function and blood pressure control.

24 Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring allows us to evaluate your blood pressure for an entire 24 hour period during your normal daily activities.

We regularly utilize advanced lipid profiles and other sophisticated blood tests based on more than fifty years of research to help us assess your cardiovascular risk.

Basic Lipid Testing - Includes the following: total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglycerides.

LDL Particle Size Testing - Identifies small dense LDL, the most common lipid disorder. This disorder is associated with a three fold higher cardiovascular disease risk. Small LDL particles are an independent marker for increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

HDL Particle Subclass Determination - High levels of HDL subclass 2 are associated with efficient reverse cholesterol transport and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Lipoprotein(a) - An inherited LDL particle with an abnormal protein attached. Elevated levels of Lp(a) are associated with markedly increased risk of developing coronary artery disease.

2-Hour Glucose Tolerance Test – may be needed to assess your status with respect to metabolic syndrome and/or diabetes.

Fibrinogen - Elevated fibrinogen levels contribute to atherosclerotic clot risk especially in combination with other coronary artery disease risk factors.

hsCRP – High Sensitivity C Reactive Protein — A marker of inflammation.

PLAC 2 – A blood test which provides a very specific marker for risk of stroke and arterial inflammation.

Who Benefits? - Anyone interested in reducing their risk of diabetes, hypertension or vascular disease (whether it is heart/cardiac, brain/cerebral or peripheral arterial) could benefit from this program.
